Email from UUA District Administrator

I sent an email on another subject to our Thomas Jefferson District administrator, Annette Marquis. At the end of the email, I mentioned that we had about 10 active members and tried to grow but had not had much success. She replied:

I think the key thing in any group like yours is to keep your focus on deepening your own spiritual connections and finding ways to fulfill each other. If you put all your emphasis on growing in numbers, you’ll be constantly disappointed. Focus, instead, on the strength you derive from being together, always keep your doors open, and do everything you can to spread your love in the world. It does my heart good to know that small groups of UUs gather together all over the back roads and byways of our district. You serve an important purpose just as you are. Thank you for maintaining your commitment to UU values and principles.

Eva Ingle

Shaman author

I was reminded today that I never sent any information out after Elizabeth Edmiston's service on Shamanism. She spoke from notes, so we don't have her whole talk, but here is info about the author that she quoted. Alberto Villoldo, The Four Insights: wisdom, power and grace of the Earthkeepers. He is a medical anthropologist sharing wisdom passed down from generations of ancient shamans who hid away during Cortes' slaughter and came down in the 50's or 60's to rejoin their people. It appears that his book is available to read on-line at http://tiny.cc/PM1zi You can reach Elizabeth to talk more about this on Facebook.
Future Service Topics

At our recent membership meeting, the group brainstormed and came up with a list of topics that would make interesting services. See anything you like? Sign up to present your sermon!

Prayer

Scientology

Church and State

Reincarnation

Mayan Calendar and 2012

God and Spirituality (TB - Nov.)

The End Time

Langston Hughes (JM - Feb.)

Shamanism

Noam Chomsky

Evolution (RB - Nov.)

History of the Recovery Movement

We also listed a few dvds that it would be interesting to watch and discuss: What the Bleep?, Interviews with Jung, Bill Moyer on Mythology.

Eva and Clyde will work on a Membership service to better celebrate and include new members into our group.

Finally, we decided to keep an open forum style for services that fall during holiday weekends.
